In Padalecki’s case, that means moving to Walker – and a new promotional video released by The CW shows him discussing the show with a new, trim look. He’s turned in the rugged aesthetic of Sam Winchester for a more clean-cut look, complete with a short but full beard. Whether or not this will be exactly Padalecki’s look for the show’s first season remains to be seen, as it differs a bit from some other prior promotional content, but you can catch a glimpse of his new aesthetic below.
The original Walker, Texas Ranger ran for nine seasons from 1993 to 2001. The show became a bit of a cult-classic, mainly because of Norris’s beloved public persona. Though appreciated by many, the show was very much a product of its time, filled with moral lessons and Norris’s trademark martial arts flair. The new version will undoubtedly have a very different feel on the modern CW; fortunately, having an established network star (like Padalecki) take the lead seems like a good start.
Of course, the combination of Padalecki’s presence and Walker airing on The CW could carry some comparisons to Supernatural, despite the distinct differences in genre. Both he and Ackles will likely bring the legacy of Supernatural with them to any projects they undertake in the coming years, which could be both a blessing and a curse. Walker is set to premiere on The CW on January 21, 2021.
