Chaos Walking Movie Trailer: Daisy Ridley Can Hear Tom Holland’s Thoughts

Today, IGN debuted the Chaos Walking movie trailer, featuring Holland as the movie’s protagonist Todd Hewitt – along with his dog, Manchee – and Ridley as Viola Eade, the woman who sets Todd on his journey. They’re joined in the cast by Mads Mikkelsen, Nick Jonas, Cynthia Erivo, Demián Bichir, Kurt Sutter and David Oyelowo. Check out the Chaos Walking movie trailer below.

As showcased in the Chaos Walking trailer, Ness’s story has a uniquely sci-fi premise, where Holland’s Todd is part of a settlement full of men who can hear each other’s thoughts because they’re projected outside their minds. When Ridley’s Viola arrives, though, it quickly becomes clear that her thoughts are hidden inside her mind. This breeds a bit of distrust, as seen in one scene in the trailer where Todd says Viola could hate his dog or want to hurt him, but they inevitably form a strong bond and Todd feels protective of Viola. As is a theme of many YA stories, Todd and Viola will find themselves taking on other forces together, whether that’s a group of men who want to harm Viola or whatever invading force Viola and the hulking spaceship seen in the trailer hint at. How exactly the story comes together will be revealed when Chaos Walking finally releases.

As for the Chaos Walking release date, Lionsgate originally set it for Jan. 21, 2021 earlier this year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has impacted most – if not all – film releases in 2020 and beyond, there’s been some confusion over whether Chaos Walking will stick to that 2021 date. The trailer doesn’t offer any confirmation of the date since, like the recently released posters, it only says, “coming soon.” Lionsgate may be waiting to see what the theater industry is like and how the COVID rates are faring closer to January before making a decision about pushing the film or releasing it on streaming. While the Chaos Walking trailer doesn’t offer any insight into when the movie might release, the very fact of the trailer’s debut does indicate Lionsgate is gearing up for the film’s release in some form in 2021.
